Nominations

Click HERE to read some Iowa Episcopalians’ reflections on their experiences of discovery, joy, gratitude, and faith that is deepened through their participation on a Diocesan Committee or Board.

Elections for diocesan offices will take place at the Diocesan Convention to be held in Des Moines, November 8, 2025.

Who can be nominated for election?

A person who is canonically resident, free of Ecclesiastical discipline in the Diocese of Iowa and qualified as electors of a Parish or Organized Mission. All nominees must give their consent to having their name placed in nomination.

Who nominates someone for election?

A vestry or Bishop’s committee, or 5 individuals*, endorses someone for election. The endorsement, along with an application filled out by the nominee, is received by the Convention Nominations Committee who are responsible for nominating individuals for all offices to be filled by election at the Convention (except for those offices for which the Bishop makes nominations).

*individuals must be confirmed adult communicants of this Church in good standing in this diocese

I am being nominated for an office - what do I need to do?

  1. Fill out the nominee application (which includes your contact information, past and present service including congregational and civic, and more)

  2. Ask your nominator to email their endorsement to nominations@iowaepiscopal.org.

Example of nominator endorsement:
I/we nominate <name> to stand for election as <office>.
-- signed <warden/clergy for vestry, or 5 individuals>

Resolutions

What is a Resolution?

Resolution (noun): a determination of policy of a corporation by the vote of its board of directors or Legislative body.

Why do we submit a Resolution?

To guide our common mission by requesting action through changing standing practices or requesting actions by our churches or Diocesan groups.

How are resolutions submitted?

Resolutions are submitted in writing (via an online form) and signed by the person(s) who propose it, to the Resolutions Committee at least 40 days before convention. Resolutions are given a number and provided to delegates 30 days before the convention so they can be discussed in churches and delegates are aware of the opinions of the congregation they represent. A resolution that is not published 30 days before convention may be presented in writing to the Secretary of Convention and be brought to the floor for discussion given certain provisions, which can be found in the Rules of Order.

Necrology

The diocesan necrology list is a list of persons in the diocese who have died in the past year (since last year’s Diocesan Convention), and it is part of the official historical church records.. Every church in the diocese is asked to submit these names ahead of our annual Diocesan Convention. If there were any names that were omitted from the Necrology list last year, you are welcome to add them to this year's list.
