United Thank Offering (UTO)
Kate Rose, Custodian krose@coe.edu
UTO’s mission is to expand the circle of thankful people by encouraging daily prayers, offerings and awareness of the abundance of God’s blessings.
The United Thank Offering originated in 1889 as part of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Board of Missions. Emphasis was on mission work in the U.S. and overseas, and support and training for women working in the church. UTO has grown into a ministry of the whole church – men, women and children. The Episcopal Church has been supporting and promoting UTO since 1889.
UTO’s vision is to significantly impact the lives of women and children because of Christ’s love. To achieve this vision we will focus particularly on projects that implement significant change toward alleviating profound human suffering that the Millennium Development Goals address. Our work will directly impact the lives of women and children, and will continue our historic mission to address compelling human need and expand the mission and ministry of the church. Our new vision will be reflected in the 2009 UTO grant criteria and awards.
In Iowa the 2007 ingathering total was $12,574.67. Thank you! The 2007 ingathering totaled $2,125,587.79. In 2006 Episcopal Church of the Saviour in Clermont, Iowa, was awarded a grant for storm windows and winterization. Every penny donated is granted because UTO has an endowment to cover administration expenses.
One way to manifest your thankful heart is through the United Thank Offering. I remember hearing the sound of coins falling on top of coins when my mom would be dropping them in her UTO box. What a great memory I have her “silently” praying.
