PASTORAL THEOLOGY 208: Death & Dying

MEETING: Mondays beginning September 8, 2008 for 8 weeks (Sept. 8, Sept. 15, Sept. 22, Sept 29, Oct. 6, Oct. 13, Nov. 3, Nov. 10)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course examines the challenges of ministry with the dying: the theological task, resources in the Book of Common Prayer & 1982 Hymnal, ethical issues, as well as options for care giving.
PASTORAL THEOLOGY 210: Tools of the Trade: Fulfilling God's Mission
INSTRUCTOR: The Rev. Georgia Humphrey
MEETING: Wednesdays beginning September 10, 2008 for 8 weeks (Sept. 10, Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, Oct. 8, Oct. 15, Oct. 22, Oct. 29)
TIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
We are called to fulfill God's mission. Using these tools: 1) Family Systems Understanding; 2) Congregational Size Characteristics; 3) LENS creating; 4) Evaluating the Life Cycles in Congregations; 5) Building Grace Margins; we can gain new understanding of ministry and fulfill our Baptismal vows. These tools are ours for the journey so that we understand our call from God and the mission of the faith community. When using these tools we are shaped by the heart of God, and can create ministry as a people of God.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In this course students will view theology articulated in the Creeds, which stand as the defining instruments of our faith. Based on a format by Marianne Meeks in “Loving the Questions” an investigation into what is meant when one speaks of God, Creator, Christ, Salvation, the Spirit, the Church, Baptism and the Future. Reading will include works by Meeks, Karl Barth, Luke Timothy Johnston and Austin Farrer among others.
Application for Continuing Education Units All E-Seminary classes are eligible for Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits through Episcopal Divinity School. If you would like to receive CEUs for the class you are registering for, you must also mail this for in with your Registration form.
