Sponsors Retreats for Women Twice a Year

Twenty-eight women from six different parishes attended a Lenten Retreat sponsored by the Iowa Assembly of the Order of the Daughters of the King at St. John’s-by-the-Campus in Ames on Saturday, March 10th.    The theme for the day was The Lord is my Shepherd.

Bishop Scarfe preached the homily and celebrated the Eucharist with us.

Fosters Community

Dorsey Phelps, President, and Doris Williams, Newsletter Editor, are pictured with the Order’s exhibit at the 2006 Diocesan Convention in Des Moines.  Doris constructed the poster which emphasizes the meaning, responsibilities and joys of being part of a community of women who have accepted a Rule of Prayer and of Service.  The exhibit included a Welcome (The Flock Gathers Here) sign and the sheep table decorations from the fall Assembly suggested the overall theme of Feed My Sheep adopted for the term currently underway.

The Daughters of the King is an international lay order for women who have taken vows of daily prayer and service.  Currently there are fifty-six members and six chapters in Iowa.

At the Diocesan level, the Daughters meet twice a year (September and March) for spiritual growth and inspiration and to develop community among the members, some of whom are At-Large.  These Retreats are open to women who are not members of the Order but who may wish to participate.

In November, the Daughters pray for the Diocesan Convention, the Bishop, Clergy, and delegates and they furnish the Quiet Room.
