Back to Convention Action on Resolutions 155-A Sin of Racism (Amended) BE IT RESOLVED, that the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa and its members reaffirm their commitment to combating the sin of racism in all its forms, both within our church and within the larger communities in which we live; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this convention condemns the factors in our society which have resulted in institutionalized racism and insists that the State of Iowa take necessary steps to end all forms of discrimination; and BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be sent to the Governor of Iowa, the Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, the President of the Iowa Senate, and the Speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives. CARRIED 155-B Citizen Advocacy BE IT RESOLVED, that the Diocese of Iowa encourage all baptized members of the church to live out their baptismal vows to” strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being” by joining such citizen action networks as the Episcopal Public Policy Network, RESULTS, and Bread for the World. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that information about the above groups be sent to each congregation in a format for easy and widespread dissemination. CARRIED 155-C Trafficking BE IT RESOLVED, that each congregation work to educate its members about the reality of human trafficking in this country and elsewhere around the world so that awareness may lead to prosecution of guilty parties and release of and help for those wrongly enslaved and prosecution of persons guilty of the crime of trafficking. CARRIED 155-D 40th Anniversary of Diocese of Be it resolved, that this 155th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Be it further resolved, that a delegation from the Diocese of Iowa shall travel to CARRIED 155-E Waters of Hope Be it resolved, that this 155th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Be it further resolved, that the Rev. Mitchell Smith and Denise Smith be commended for their creative leadership in this project. WITHDRAWN 155-F Support of Millennium Development Goals CARRIED 155-G Financial Support for Delegates to Provincial Synod Be it Resolved, that the 155th Convention of the Diocese of Iowa raise the financial support for delegates to Provincial Synod in order to more accurately cover the expenses of our delegates, and be it further Resolved, that this Convention asks the Ways and Means Committee to consider reallocating funds from some of the travel budgets; from the Training Conferences, Workshop and Event Participation line; from the Clergy Conference line; or any other appropriate line in the budget. CARRIED 155-H Be it Resolved, that the 155th Convention of the Diocese of Iowa commit to paying the entire asking from The Episcopal Church. TABLED 155-I Episcopal Church and Financial Transparency WITHDRAWN 155-J Of The Property, Architecture, and Allied Arts Committee FAILED 155-K Diocesan Staffing Needs WITHDRAWN 155-L Board of Directors Meetings CARRIED 155-M Sanctuary for Immigrants Be it resolved, that the Diocese of Iowa become a Sanctuary Diocese committed to granting places of safety for those who have traveled here as immigrants. CARRIED 155-N Equal Justice for all Be it resolved, that the Diocese of Iowa support the principal of Justice that underlies the recent court ruling on the illegality of marriage as it currently written in TABLED 155-O Acceptance of the CARRIED 155-P BE IT RESOLVED, that the Beijing Circles Resource Book/materials developed for the Episcopal Women's Ministries by the Rev. Susanne Watson Epting in response to the "Beijing Platform for Action," which was created by a UN gathering of women from around the world and set in the context of Christian faith, be made available as a resource to congregations by the diocesan Commission on One World One Church and/or the Commission on Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation as a way of working on Millennium Development Goal #3, "Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women." CARRIED 155-Q Millennium Development Goals and the Episcopal Diocese of Be it resolved, that this 155th Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa remind the people and parishioners of the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa, in accordance with Resolution 154-S, that the Millennium Development Goals are an incarnational response to the sacrifice of Christ for us and for many for the forgiveness of sins, and that the diocese, each congregation and individual in the diocese strive to: Ÿ Pray and Study throughout this next year Ÿ Give 0.7% of their income to reduce global poverty Ÿ Raise Awareness of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in their congregations Ÿ Take action and Advocate with their Congresspersons to fulfill the promise that our government made to support achieving the MDGs Be it further resolved, that each congregation in the diocese identify a contact person for Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation (E4GR) so that avenues of communication be enhanced to share ideas, materials, stories and successes on how people in the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa are taking seriously their baptismal vows to “strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of every human being.” REFERRED TO STEWARDSHIP COMMISSION 155-R Grant Writing Task Force WITHDRAWN 155-S 2008 Balanced Budget TABLED 155-T 2009 Convention Schedule |
